I’ll do a Strength Cruise recap this week on an upcoming post.

Today’s post is from Dr.Jose Antonio who revealed his TOP 4 Supplement Myths during his workshop, which he gave on the Strength Cruise.

Aside from being an all-around great guy who I’m honored to call a friend – Dr.Jose Antonio is a co-founder on the The International Society of Sports Nutrition (the ISSN), which is the only non-profit academic society dedicated to promoting the science and application of evidence-based sports nutrition and supplementation.

The ISSN regularly holds conference events, which you can check out here. I’ll be there for their event at the Arnold Sports Festival (March 1-4, 2012) teaching at the Ah-nald Strength Summit in Columbus, OH. And, I’ll also be attending the ISSN 9th Annual Conference and Expo, June 22-23, 2012 in Clearwater Beach, FL

Here’s a video I took during his Strength Cruise presentation where Dr.Antonio discusses why the last three (of the four shown on the slide above) are Myths, which need to be rethought.

Below the video I’ve summarized what Dr.Antonio said about why (the first one on his list) “You must clean up your diet BEFORE taking supplements” is also a common sports nutrition myth.

Before I was able to get my camera going, Dr.Antonio told us that sports supplements such as creatine, beta alanine, fish oil, BCAAs, etc., can and will have a positive effect regardless of how or what foods you eat.

This is why he believes (and I agree now that he’s enlightened me) that saying “You have to clean up your diet BEFORE you take sports supplements” is a not very accurate since effective supplements are NOT made any less effective by how or what you eat.

We all know that eating high-quality foods AND taking scientifically proven supplements is the most powerful nutritional combination . But, I now understand that one doesn’t necessarily need to come before the other.
